Pilgrim of the Week: Jamie Fleischman, Director of Original Content

To celebrate the new week we’re featuring a new Pilgrim of the Week, Jamie Fleischman! As Director of Original Content, Jamie focuses on the development and production of scripted programming. Learn more about Jamie’s role at Pilgrim, the coolest project she’s worked on, and the best thing that’s happened to her this week:

What do you do at Pilgrim?

I’m the Director of Original Content — our department focuses on the development and production of scripted programming (e.g., series, limited series, features, television movies). I read books and articles we may want to option, research and write pitches, read scripts, meet with writers, things like that. For the first time in my life, I wholeheartedly love my job.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on?

That’s a tough question, but I’d say Double Agent — a feature we’re hoping to find a director for soon — is my personal favorite, partly for sentimental reasons. Double Agent was the first scripted project I initiated myself (I’d read a blurb about Peter Duffy’s book in Publishers Weekly and knew I had to get my hands on it); it was also the first time I was heavily involved in multiple stages of the scripted development process (optioning IP, attaching a writer, developing the script, etc.) and I learned a TON. Plus, Double Agent is a really cool true story — it’s about a mild-mannered German immigrant who teamed up with Hoover’s FBI to take down a Nazi spy ring in New York City (!) right before America entered World War II.

What’s the best thing that happened to you this week, either at work or outside of it?

As part of some research for work, I’ve been glued to this incredible memoir written by a young girl who escaped from North Korea. We got the chance to speak with her on the phone last week and, as corny as it sounds, I almost cried!

Fill in the blank: If you really knew me, you’d know_____.

I’m obsessed with Paul Simon, World War II, and Vanderpump Rules.

Who do you nominate for Pilgrim of the Week and why?

My teammate Michael “Kric” Kricfalusi because he works insanely hard, pulls no punches, and is full of surprises.
